All those involved in faith formation - parents, volunteers, catechists, DRE's, parish staff - plan a day of insightful presentations, quiet prayer time in the Chape, a chance to share with Catholic leaders and members of the community from across the Archdiocese. The day concluded with a Vigil Mass celebrated by Archbishop Sample.
Your 2016 Conference featured a number of exciting and engaging workshops in English, Spanish and Vietnamese. Just to highlight a few: the ever-dynamic and inspirational Hector Molina, of Casting Nets Ministries, offered a keynote in both English and Spanish.
The Catechetical Lecture was given (in English) by Dr. Petroc Willey, the Director of the Catechetics Department at Franciscan University of Steubenville.
Rueben Quezada, popular author and speaker, presented in Spanish on the topic of religious freedom.
All of workshops were practical and aimed to correspond with the needs of real time ministry, whether that is in the home, parish or school.
The catechist, then, is a Christian who is mindful of God, who is guided by the memory of God in his or her entire life and who is able to awaken that memory in the hearts of others. This is not easy! It engages our entire existence! What is the Catechism itself, if not the memory of God, the memory of his works in history and his drawing near to us in Christ present in his word, in the sacraments, in his Church, in his love?
Dear catechists, I ask you:
Are we in fact the memory of God?
Are we really like sentinels who awaken in others the memory of God which warms the heart? - Pope Francis
